American superhero comics are counted in ages. The Golden Age, from 1938, was drawn simply and printed cheaply. The Silver Age, from 1956, drew with more depth, more motion and bolder angles.

Both looks print on warm newsprint, and the caption box with its black border is at home on either. Golden Age's flat colour leaves wide, clear patches for it; on Silver-Age's busier dots the border does more of the work.
